ISLAMABAD: At least 24 lawmakers of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) have openly declared to vote against Prime Minister Imran Khan on the no-confidence motion that was tabled in the National Assembly, the lower house of parliament, by the opposition on March 8.
The disgruntled PTI lawmakers are currently staying in the Sindh House, a palatial building for stay of important officials who visit Islamabad from Sindh province.
According to the dissident members, they took shelter there in the wake of threats of kidnapping from the government ministers.
Raja Riaz, one of the PTI lawmakers staying in Sindh House, claimed on Wednesday that if the PM assures all legislators that no action will be taken against those who have decided to vote against him on the day of the no-confidence motion, they are ready to go back to the Parliament Lodges, the official residential complex for members of parliament.
“Right now, around 24 MNAs are staying here. Many other PTI lawmakers and ministers are also ready to come here but the opposition parties are unable to accommodate them,” Riaz said.
In a bid to thwart the opposition’s no-trust move, the ruling PTI’s political committee, headed by PM Khan, has decided not to allow Sindh House to turn into a horse-trading hub.
