As a result of sanctions led by the US and EU, the oil price has risen.
As the global oil market reacts to Russia’s conflict against Ukraine, national average gas prices continue to rise. Russia’s capacity to sell crude oil, which is a crucial predictor of gas prices, has been hampered by sanctions imposed by the United States and the European Union. Even though Russia’s contribution to America’s crude oil is 3%, rising prices are a result of global market volatility.
The Russian-Ukraine war has led to various problems, and increasing gas prices is one of them. Dr Willie Wilson, a former Chicago mayoral candidate and businessman, has stepped out for help and is donating $200K free gas to chosen sites on Thursday to make this situation better for people.
At 7:00 a.m., the giveaway began. Lines were building two hours ahead of schedule at a gas station along Pulaski Road and Montrose Avenue. The police momentarily shut down a petrol station due to a significant number of people attempting to break the queue. All exits were shut down until 7:00 a.m.
According to CBS 2, one man informed that he had been waiting in line for the gas handout since midnight.
As reported by the American Automobile Association (AAA), rates in Illinois have risen to as high as $4.55 for ordinary and $5.32 for premium. Customers at 10 different sites will receive $50 in gas starting at 7:00 a.m. until the $200K is depleted. Khalil Abdullah and Amin Ibrahim, the owners of a gas station, have agreed to cut their prices in order to serve more customers. Wilson is willing to perform another giveaway like this one or two more times.
Gas stations all across the city have lines
However, the free gas created gridlock around most of the gas stations, making for a grinding morning commute for many. In some areas, the mood resembled a tailgate, with people waiting to stroll their dogs and making friends with others in the line.
