Ekambareswarar Temple, Tamil Nadu
Dedicated to Lord Shiva, this ancient temple dates back to the time of the Pallava, and Chola Kings. Covering an area of 23 acres, this spectacular temple has one of the tallest entrance gate in all of South India. There is also a shrine dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is truly a marvel that has stood the test of time.

Airavateswara Temple, Tamil Nadu
A classic example of Dravidian architecture, Airavateswara Temple was built in the 12th Century. Today it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is located in the Kumbakonam area. This temple is also dedicated to Lord Shiva, but there is a chariot structure that includes many deities. The detailed work on the temple is something of a marvel, an unfathomable beauty.

Sri Vadakkunnathan Temple, Kerala
An ancient Shiva temple in Thrissur, Kerala, it is said to be 350 years old. The temple is known for its beautiful murals. The Vasukishayana and Nrithanatha murals are the most important of all the murals, and are worshipped everyday. The temple is one of the best places for a pilgrimage during Maha Shivratri festival.

Vidyashankara Temple, Karnataka
Vidyashankara Temple in Sringeri was built in the memory of Guru Vidhyashankara back in the 14th century. The temple is built of stone, and has a mix architecture of Dravida and Hoysala styles. This makes it a unique structure. The inscriptions on the temple are quite detailed, and gives you an idea about the Vijayanagar Empire.
