Civic Polls: Twin City Police Says Will Tackle Violence With Iron Hand
Commissioner of Police for Cuttack and Bhubaneswar has sent out a strict warning against perpetrators of violence trying to disrupt peace and law and order in the Twin Cities in the run-up to the urban elections in Odisha on March 24.
Twin City Police Commissioner SK Priyadarshi on Saturday said that any act of violence before and during the civic body elections in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar will not be tolerated.
Priyadarshi’s warning came a day after pre-poll violence erupted in Bhubaneswar during which at least five family members of a BJP corporator candidate sustained critical injuries.
Police said that BJP corporator candidate from ward no 33 Dharitri Jena’s husband, brother-in-law and three others were allegedly attacked by dozens of assailants including husband of Jena’s rival BJD candidate and the ruling party’s corporator candidate from ward no 32.
Reacting to the clash, the Police Commissioner assured that no steps will be left unturned to nab the culprits involved in the incident so that exemplary action will be taken against them.
From crackdown against ‘khatti’ to special patrolling and consumption of alcohol in public place, the Commissionerate Police has already launched a series of measures to dissuade mischief-mongers and anti-socials from creating nuisance till the model code of conduct is in force.
