The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) had a big decision to make regarding their captaincy after former captain Virat Kohli stepped down from the position following the 14th edition of Indian Premier League. The franchise is all set to reveal their new leader on March 12.
Meanwhile, experts have weighed in on the subject and discussed potential players in the team who could take up the role. RCB’s former skipper Daniel Vettori, who was replaced by Virat Kohli as captain in 2013, informed that the latter will never return as the captain of the franchise in the future. “No (Virat Kohli will not be the captain of RCB captain again). I think it is as simple as that. I don’t think that ever works, let alone in franchise cricket or international cricket. Once the captain is moved on, the right thing is for him to move on,” Vettori was reportedly quoted as saying.
The new skipper of the Bangalore franchise is expected to be one among Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell. Virat Kohli was one of the three players to be retained by RCB ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction, besides Glenn Maxwell and Mohammed Siraj. The team will play their first match of the upcoming season on March 27 against Punjab Kings at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai.
