NEW DELHI: With Bhagwant Mann is set to take oath as Punjab chief minister on March 16, AAP national convenor and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal will join him in a show of strength at a mega road show in Amritsar on Sunday. A day after the results, Mann met Kejriwal in the capital to discuss government formation and composition of the Cabinet.
Having swept the polls winning 92 of the 117 seats, the party faces a crucial test in a state where people shunned traditional parties to give Kejriwal’s promise of change a chance.
Mann invited Kejriwal for the oath-taking ceremony which, party sources said, is likely to be held at Khatkar Kalan, the ancestral village of iconic freedom fighter Bhagat Singh. This will mark a break from the tradition of the ceremony being held in Raj Bhavan. In Delhi too, AAP began each of its three stints in power with oath-taking ceremony at Ramlila Maidan.
In a video released by AAP, Kejriwal is shown embracing Mann as he arrived to meet him. In a tweet after the meeting, Kejriwal referred to Mann as a “younger brother” and said he has “full faith” in him and “is confident he will live up to the expectations of the public”. Delhi health minister Satyendar Jain and AAP’s Punjab co-incharge Raghav Chadha were also present at the meeting.
Sisodia also took to Twitter to say to congratulate Mann. “I wish him all the best for the big change he will administer in Punjab in the next five years by fulfilling the aspirations of the public,” he said.
Later in the day, Mann rushed back to Punjab as the party intensified preparations for forming its government. Mann is expected to meet the governor on Saturday.
Mann, also AAP’s state unit head, won from Dhuri assembly seat, defeating Congress candidate and sitting MLA Dalvir Singh Goldy.
