Laying pitch for polls next year in Tripura , Amit Shah promises 33% job quota for women

Union home minister Amit Shah, who was in Agartala on Tuesday, said that 33% of government jobs in Tripura would be reserved for women. Laying the pitch for the election campaign to the Tripura assembly, expected to be held early next year, he said that for 25 years Tripura had suffered under the Communist rule but was now enjoying peace and progress under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb.

Shah was in Tripura to celebrate the fourth anniversary of the BJP-Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) government. Shah said the northeastern was once known for insurgency, infiltration, blockades, drug menace and corruption. But Narendra Modi, through the many development programmes, has turned the eight states of the region into “Ashtalakshmi” (a group of eight Hindu goddesses).

Shah said Modi has developed infrastructure, connectivity and boosted organic farming by investing thousands of crores and has taken Tripura to a new development era.

Shah said that after years of uncertainty, the permanent settlement of 37,000 Reang tribal migrants from Mizoram in Tripura was done.

He said the double engine government has increased the per capita income of the people of Tripura to Rs 1.30 lakh in just four years and farmers’ income have risen to Rs 11,000 per month from Rs 6,500. He said that during the erstwhile Left government, over 39 BJP workers were killed. Asking people to give one more term to the BJP government in Tripura, he said, “to develop the National Highways, Rs 7,000 crore is being invested in Tripura.”
