Week 9 in review: Nokia, Poco, Realme and Honor announcements

The Mobile World Congress came and went and makers of all shapes and sizes took advantage of the world’s attention to showcase new stuff. Let’s take a look at the biggest stories from the week.

Xiaomi’s Poco announced the 4G variant of the M4 Pro and the brand-new X4 Pro 5G. The biggest selling point of both is the AMOLED display – 6.67-inch 120Hz on the X4 Pro 5G, and 6.43-inch 90Hz on the M4 Pro. The X4 Pro 5G has a 108MP main camera, while the M4 Pro a 64MP. Both devices have 5,000mAh batteries, but the X4 Pro 5G charges at 67W, while the M4 Pro at 33W.

The Poco X4 Pro 5G is on sale, starting at €300 with a special early bird discount of €30 for the first sale. The M4 Pro starts at €220 for the 6/128 GB model. However, there is a €20 early bird discount.

Nokia announced two new midrangers. The C21 and C21 Plus both have metal frames, 6.5-inch 720x1600px displays, and toughened glass to protect from shattering. Interestingly, there are two versions of the C21 Plus. One has a 5,050 mAh battery for three-day battery life, the other is lighter with a 4,000 mAh battery capacity for two-day battery life. In either case, you get a 10W charger (that works over microUSB) in the retail package.

We also saw the Nokia PureBook Pro laptop in 17.3-inch and 15.6-inch sizes. Nokia actually licenced its name to French startup OFF Global to produce the laptop, so it’s not exactly designed and made in Finland.

The device sports an aluminum top cover, rounded edges, big trackpad and backlit keyboard. Of course, both options come with Full HD IPS panels with up to 250 nits of brightness, but offer just one CPU option – Intel Core i3-1220P paired with 8GB of RAM and 512GB SSD.

The 17-inch flavor offers a 63Wh battery, while the smaller iteration carries a 57Wh pack. The former weighs a whopping 2.5kg, while the latter weighs in at more reasonable 1.7kg.

The Nokia PureBook Pro 15.6″ will retail from € 699, whereas the Nokia PureBook Pro 17.3″ will start at 799€.

The Realme GT2 and GT2 Pro launched globally. The pair is on sale from March 15 with the GT2 starting at £399/€449 early bird price for the 8/128GB, and the GT2 Pro starting at £599 and €649, early-bird price, for the 8/128GB.

Honor announced the Magic4 series with the Magic4 and Magic4 Pro both wielding Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipsets and 6.81-inch 1224x2664px LTPO AMOLED displays of 120Hz refresh rate. Both phones have a 50MP 1/1.56-inch main cameras and 50MP ultrawides, but the Pro has a 3.5x 90mm periscope with a big 1/2.0-inch sensor, while the Magic4 has a conventional 8MP 5x periscope with a smaller sensor.

Magic4 Pro comes in Cyan, Gold, White and Black colors comes with glass backs while the Orange color has a vegan leather back. The baseline 8GB RAM and 256GB storage version will retail for €1,099. Honor Magic4 starts at €899. Honor Magic4 series will be available starting from Q2 2022.

Apple sneaked in an announcement for its March 8 event, at which it will likely announce new Macs with Apple Silicon, a new iPad Air, and the new iPhone SE.
