India’s key diplomatic engagements have been affected due the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
President Ram Nath Kovind’s visits to Serbia, Jamaica and a Latin American country have been deferred, ET has learnt. These visits were much awaited given India‘s old ties with Serbia, which has traditionally backed India’s stand on Kashmir, and Jamaica, where Indians form the third largest community.
Even external affairs minister S Jaishankar‘s scheduled visits to Egypt, Palestine and Oman have been put on hold. No call has yet been taken on Jaishankar’s mid-March Colombo visit.
Meanwhile, PM Modi‘s engagement in the BIMSTEC summit on March 30-31 in Colombo is still in place. Whether the PM will travel for the summit or attend virtually is still not clear.
