We have fitbits that strap like watches on to your wrist and measure your vitals including your heart rate. In the aftermath of Covid-19, oxygen measurement has become the stock feature of all smart bands. What if we told you there’s now a fitbit for the face?
Yep, it’s real! Called “FaceBit” or “Fitbit for the face”, the coin-sized sensor attached to a face mask with help from a tiny magnet. It can track a user’s respiration rate, heart rate, and even problems with the mask. Imagine how easier life would be in a pandemic if your smart device told you it’s time to replace your mask or that it is leaking. That’s exactly what FaceBit claims to do.

FaceBit could save lives
Designed for healthcare workers, the FaceBit may be used by anyone in high-infection zones or working on the frontlines of Covid-19. Developed by engineers at Northwestern University, the device can reportedly even assess and predict the emotional state of its users, in addition to their level of fatigue. If these claims hold any weight, the FaceBit could be a life-saver for healthcare professionals.

How does it work, you wonder? The tiny gadget transmits the vital data to the user’s smartphone in real time. If your heart rate suddenly shoots up, it will inform you on the app.
Cherry on the top – it recharges through the user’s breath. No wires, no plugs – just natural breathing powering the device. A full charge can keep it running for at least 11 days, its makers told Eureka Alert.
