Top 5 Things To Know About The Upcoming MG ZS electric SUV

Mark your calendar folks as MG Motors will bring the updated ZS electric SUV to our shores on March 7. Images of the MG ZS EV have already surfaced online, giving us a hint on what’s in store. From a few cosmetic tweaks on the outside to a complete overhaul of the cabin inside, there’s a lot to talk about MG’s ZS EV. Here are some of the highlights:

A Cleaner Look

Gone is the faux front grille seen on the earlier model. MG has brought in a new, clean bumper that has sleeker-looking LED headlamps — which looks like they were lifted straight from the MG Astor’s spare parts bin — on either side. Also new on the MG ZS EV are the rear bumper design and tail-light, which again, seems to be taken from the MG Astor.

Big Changes On The Inside

While MG is yet to show what the inside of the ZS electric SUV’s cabin, spy images have shown us that the changes are quite extensive. There’s a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system which may come with Astor’s personal AI assistant and a digital driver’s display. Those seated at the back will now get a central armrest and AV vents. Finally, MG may utilise soft-touch plastic and a one-tone colour scheme for the interior.

New Features

Back in January, spy shots of the new ZS EV revealed the presence of a camera in the front windshield, along with a 360-degree camera on the ORVMs. This indicates the 2022 model will get MG’s Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), which provides drive-friendly features like adaptive cruise control, lane-keep/departure assist, blind-spot detection and autonomous emergency braking.

Same Power, Improved Range

Powering the new MG ZS electric could be the bigger 51kWh battery pack from the international variant. However, we think the power figures may remain the same at 143hp. This new battery pack is rated for a range of 318km, which is an increase of 56km compared to the earlier model. MG also sells an even bigger 72kWh battery pack, with a 439km range on a single charge. However, it is unlikely to come to India.

May Cost A Small Premium

Pricing of the current MG ZS EV starts at Rs 21.49 lakh and goes all the way up to Rs 25.18 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom). Considering the extent of changes, expect a small premium to be charged. Once launched, the MG ZS electric SUV will compete against Hyundai Kona Electric.
