Things appear to be looking up for any Android purists in India as a mysterious new Google device, model number “GX7AS,” was recently spotted on the Indian BIS certification website. We only know that it is a mobile phone and not much else, but that in itself is potentially great news, since the last smartphone Google launched in India was the Pixel 4a. This appears to signify a return to market.
That being said, the GX7AS could easily be the Pixel 6a, which we are still waiting on and might be launched in May. However, the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro have already started frequenting the rumor mill with all sorts of leaks and more recently a great set of high-quality renders for both the vanilla and the Pro. The GX7AS could easily be one of these devices, which, if we go by past announcement windows, should be unveiled in September or October 2022. Still, quite a while off.

Recapping what we currently know, the Pixel 7 generation is said to iterate on the current Pixel 6 design. The 7 Pro is expected to sport a 6.7″ or 6.8″ curved OLED panel, while the flat OLED on the vanilla Pixel 7 is rumored to be slightly smaller than the Pixel 6’s at 6.2 inches.

Camera setups for both devices aren’t expected to change drastically in terms of hardware. At least that we know of so far. However, what is on the potential upgrade list is a new Tensor chipset. One that should replace the dated Cortex-A76 cores of the current Tensor with newer ones at the very least. The Titan M2 security chip will likely make an appearance in some shape as well.
The vanilla Pixel 7 is also expected to get a bigger 5,000 mAh battery this time around and potentially a new 512GB storage tier to join the 128GB and 256GB ones.
