The People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) said on Saturday that it would participate in the assembly election as it is the basis of democracy but the delimitation exercise in J&K has favoured the BJP and alienated the people further.
The PAGD has prepared a white paper regarding the political, social, economic and security situation of J&K since August 5, 2019, which it is planning to submit before the President and other senior leaders and parliamentarians.
On August 5, 2019, the Centre revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated the state into two Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh.
“We will fight the elections, we won’t run away from it. But what the delimitation commission has done pains us and has alienated the people of the region further, rather than making their lives easier. What they have done is very unfortunate,” said Farooq Abdullah, president of the PAGD.
Abdullah, the National Conference leader who represents Srinagar in the Lok Sabha, said the changes proposed by the delimitation commission were cosmetic and that they would not change anything in reality.
“Delimitation commission has worked in favour of the BJP thinking they could get maximum seats in the assembly, so that they will be able to pass a resolution in favour of what they did on August 5, 2019. Then if (the Centre) goes to the Supreme Court again, they would say everything has been done,” said Abdullah.
