Pa Ranjith is a leading director and movie producer in the Tamil film industry. His last venture, ‘Sarpatta Parambarai’ that released on Amazon Prime, was named one of the best Tamil movies in 2021. Currently, he is working on the post-production of his upcoming film ‘Natchathiram Nagargirathu’.
The critically acclaimed maker will be teaming up with Vikram for his next project tentatively titled “Chiyaan 61”, bankrolled by Studio Green. Now, a hot update about his next film after ‘Chiyaan 61’ has surfaced over the internet. Pa Ranjith will kickstart the works of his Bollywood debut venture, ‘Birsa’, by the end of this year.
It is worth mentioning that ‘Birsa’ is the dream project of Ranjith which was originally supposed to begin in 2018. The project got delayed due to various unknown reasons. The film will be a biographical drama based on the life of Birsa Munda, a tribal leader from Jharkhand who stood up to British colonial oppressors in the 19th century.
The producer duo Shareen Mantri Kedia and Kishor Arora under the banner Namah Pictures are collaborating with Ranjith on this biopic which traces the life of a freedom fighter, who was an important figure in the history of the Indian independence movement. The makers revealed they are planning to start the shoot of the movie next year.
The team is lending final touches to the script and has extensively toured Jharkhand and Bengal. Ranjith opened up to the media about his Hindi debut, “I could not have chosen a better project for my first Hindi film. The process of scripting and research behind the film has been a very enriching process. I have gained inspiration from Birsa’s life and his conviction for freedom and autonomy. Would also like to thank the producers for their patience during the process of research and scripting.”
When asked about the film, producer Shareen Mantri said, “We, at Namah Pictures, love to tell stories that engage, entertain and inspire. The team has undergone intense research for the film and we aim to bring alive Birsa’s story on a colossal scale.” Producer Kishor Arora added, “Birsa Munda’s story of revolution personifies courage in every way. We are thrilled to collaborate with Ranjith for his Bollywood debut as a director and cannot wait for the film to go on floors this year!”
