BMW has officially launched the all-electric MINI Cooper SE in India. Priced at Rs 47.20 lakh (ex-showroom), the first 30 units of the three-door hatchback have already been sold out. However, the company will start accepting newer bookings from next month online. This will be the company’s second all-electric offering after the BMW iX electric SUV, which was launched last year in December.
Unveiled globally back in 2019, the MINI Cooper SE will be brought to our shores via the CBU route. It shares the same design as its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart, apart from the large front grille which is now replaced by a smooth body panel.
It still features the quintessential circular LED headlights and Union Jack-themed tail lights. The MINI gets 17-inch alloy wheels, with optional yellow colour accents.
Step inside and things are largely untouched compared to its petrol counterpart. It features a big 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, with Apple CarPlay. Additionally, you also get a digital driver’s display, ambient lighting and more.
Powering the Cooper SE is an electric motor, which is juiced up by a 32.6kWh battery pack. It churns out 184PS of power and 270Nm of torque. You also get three different riding modes here – Green, Green+ and Sport. MINI claims the Cooper SE can do a 0-100kmph sprint in 7.3 seconds.
As per BMW, the MINI Cooper SE has a range of 233km on a single charge. In case you run of out juice, it can be charged via three different options – a 2kW home charger, 7.4kW public charger and a 50kW fast charger which can give up to 80 per cent of charge in just 35 minutes.
