Mahindra, Tendulkar praise teen for beating Carlsen

The 16-year-old R. Praggnanandhaa has been receiving praises from all around the world including industrialist Anand Mahindra after he defeated number one chess player, Magnus Charlsen on Monday.

Praggnanandhaa victory over World number one Charlsen came in the eight round of the ongoing Airthings Masters, an online rapid chess competition.

In the 16-year-old’s stunning win, Mahindra found a life lesson.

“There’s a lesson here being taught by this young man: It’s only when we ENJOY our work & our challenges that we can achieve our full potential…” Mahindra wrote as he shared an article link on the teen chess player’s victory.

At the game, the 16-year-old didn’t just stop there. After defeating world number one, Praggnanandhaa registered two more wins against Andrey Esipenko and Alexandra Kosteniuk in rounds 10 and 12 on Tuesday of the ongoing Airthings Masters.

His game was also applauded by non other than cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar who said that the chess player must be feeling so wonderful after having beaten the experiences and decorated 31-year-old Carlsen.

“What a wonderful feeling it must be for Pragg. All of 16, and to have beaten the experienced & decorated Magnus Carlsen, and that too while playing black, is magical!

Best wishes on a long & successful chess career ahead. You’ve made India proud!” the cricketer tweeted.

Indian Grandmaster later defeated Russia’s Vladislav Artemiev in the 15th and final round of the preliminary phase of the Airthings Masters, an online rapid chess tournament. However, he missed out on qualifying for the quarterfinals.

Team India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin also congratulated 16-year-old chess prodigy for his excellent show of skills at the online rapid chess tournament.

The teen chess prodigy was also hailed by five-time former world champion Viswanathan Anand.

“Always proud of our talents! Very good day for @rpragchess,” Anand tweeted.
