Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that it is important for India to be strong at a time when the world is in a state of turmoil, not only for itself, but in the interest of mankind.

“You are seeing how the world is in a state of turmoil right now . When there is turmoil all around and everybody is guessing what will happen tomorrow, shouldn’t India be strong?” he said while addressing a rally in Bahraich.

Modi started his address by invoking Raja Suheldev who is believed to have defeated and killed the Ghaznavid General Ghazi Miyan in Bahraich and is also revered hugely by the OBC Rajbhar community. Last year, he had laid the foundation stone of a memorial dedicated to the warrior prince in Bahraich.

“When the time is tough, it is important to have a tough leader too,” he said.

With Bahraich being one of the most backward districts of the state, Modi said Bahraich, Basti, Gonda and Balrampur suffered a lot of discrimination under the previous government but is seeing development under the BJP government. Improved law and order is the first step in that direction.

He attacked the SP for allegedly supporting terrorists saying the parirvaarwadis are “silent” over the punishment announced by the Ahmedabad HC to those accused in the 2008 bomb blasts. He said while previous governments gave only 2 L jobs in the past 10 years, Yogi has given 5 L jobs.

Intensifying his attack against the rivals, Modi said in the name of “garibi hatao” and Samajwad (socialism), they looted the country.
